Hill Brothers is a full service Sitework Construction company. We can take your property from a wooded lot to a cleared, pad-ready site and install all wet utilities and drainage. We also perform demolition, grading, paving, and hauling services.
In 2004, after Hurricane Ivan hit the Gulf Coast, Charles Daniel Hill (Charlie) set out to clean up sand from under his home on Dauphin Island with a borrowed skid steer. While working there, he was asked to help move sand from a neighbor’s property, and then another neighbor, and another, and he continued this pattern for the next few years alongside his brother, who then stepped out and started his own company in the carpentry field. The “Hill Brothers” name remained with Charlie, and he continued to acquire more work and his own equipment. During the next few years, he continued helping the residents of Dauphin Island recover from the devastating effects of Hurricanes Ivan and Katrina in 2005.
As Charlie’s company grew during this time, he and his three-man crew started to pick up small jobs in the Mobile and Baldwin County area that supplemented his work on Dauphin Island. The quality of his workmanship allowed him to become well known and he was awarded commercial jobs around the area. In late 2015, he was awarded several large sitework contracts for subdivision projects in the Baldwin County area and was able to expand his business and acquire more trucks and equipment to complete these jobs. He continued to run his business out of his home until 2018, when he hired a General Manager, Jamie Montgomery, and rented a small office space in Daphne and incorporated his sole proprietorship. Shortly after this, as his revenues grew, he opened another company to manage his dirt pit and properties called C Hill Properties LLC.
In 2019, he acquired Earl Ryland’s Underground Services Inc. and moved the Hill Brother’s offices to the same location in Robertsdale. He remodeled the office and grounds to house staff, employees, and equipment, and took both companies to record breaking revenues during 2019. Since then, Hill Brothers has added another pit in Loxley on Hwy 64.
As the challenges of Covid-19 presented themselves in early 2020, Charlie guaranteed his employees that they would not be laid off and fortunately, he was able to keep the entire workforce employed during 2020. As the year progressed, Charlie was faced with responding to two back-to-back hurricanes which hit the Gulf Coast area late in the year. Charlie deployed emergency crews from both Hill Brothers and Rylands Underground to assist thousands of Baldwin County residences for power restoration, debris removal, and clearing roads along with property. However, with all the year’s difficulties, the year ended on a positive note, with being awarded the largest single contract the company had ever gotten, a joint venture sitework contract for the Aldi Distribution Center on Hwy 49 at the Industrial Complex in Loxley, Al.
Even as the company has faced challenges both in workforce availability and material shortages during 2021, the leadership skills of the Ownership and Management have proven to make for an even more promising future for Hill Brothers, Rylands Underground, and C Hill Properties. The Companies are led with humility, honesty, and respect. Charlie Hill is revered and respected by his workforce and his peers for his hard work, dedication, and “shoulder to shoulder” work ethic with his employees. He would never ask an employee to do anything he would not do himself and leads by example. Building clients’ projects like they were his own has paid off.
